‘There is no rose of such virtue’ is a carol found in a 15th century manuscript in Trinity College, Cambridge. It has its own melody and an exquisite setting by Benjamin Britten, so with some hesitation we offer another version. It is through-composed, i.e. not a tune repeated for each stanza, so it is really a choir piece, although well within the capabilities of a basic group of singers. It is adaptable: unison, 3 equal voices, or four parts. An instrumental part, C or B flat, completes the ensemble. Pleasant and interesting melody and harmonies.
