This is the book of what has come to be known as Taizé prayer. Modelled after the structure of the Divine Office, this book offers seven prayer formats – a full weekly cycle – for Advent, Lent, and Easter; fourteen settings – a two-week cycle – for Ordinary Time; and three settings each for Christmas, Holy Week, and Pentecost. Each prayer includes a psalm text, Scripture reading, litany of praise or petition, and a Lord’s Prayer with closing prayer. Directions for using song and silence complete the format of each day.This is the ideal prayer leader’s manual for use with Songs for Prayer.A general introduction gives suggestions on preparing a prayer service, preparing the place, the use of songs and silence, and special celebrations of prayer around the cross and the festival of the Resurrection.
