The Liturgy Constitution of Vatican II said that the principal Hours should be celebrated in parish churches. There are many obstacles tothis, not least the complicated nature of the office books.
This venture is designed to bring the Hours to the people, by providing a simpler version of Evening Prayer with fewer texts and more movement and visual involvement, including such rites as the Lucernarium or lighting of lamps. It also includes simple musical settings, unlike the current office books.
Celebrating Sunday Evening Prayer is authorised for use in England and Wales.
It will also appeal to churches of other denominations looking for resources to celebrate evening prayer in a contemporary style.
Containing complete orders of service, seasonal variations, rubrics and explanatory notes, it comes with an accompanying CD which not only contains the text of the book, but standard templates for the production of local service sheets. This will ensure uniformity of style and presentation wherever the book is used. A fine book published by Canterbury Press.
