Holy Gifts gathers 16 songs from the past ten years.

Both accessible and adventurous, the songs cover Christmas, Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Pentecost and Ordinary Time. Cantors and choirs will find arrangements that are intricate and rewarding. Accompaniment is primarily piano or organ, and there are parts for woodwinds, brass and strings.

The collection includes hymns, three responsorial psalms, a Gospel acclamation and music for the Liturgy of the Hours and the sacraments. A versatile piece for Holy Thursday, "Faith, Hope and Love" offers the choice of two texts, verses from the Mandatum and the "Ubi Caritas".

Inspired by the idea of sancta sanctis, "holy things (or gifts) for holy people", from eastern liturgies, the title song is a dignified processional chant for Communion. Other highlights include "May Love Be Ours", with text by Timothy Dudley Smith, and "Only the Shepherds", a Christmas song set to a beautiful Catalan melody.

Holy Gifts will provide both small parishes and cathedrals with new works to welcome into their repertoire.

The CD is performed by singers from St Mary’s and Trinity Cathedrals, Portland, and top-class local instrumentalists, and is intended as a listening experience in itself.

This collection features several musical styles: traditional , choral, contemporary ballads and hymns. It features music for Eucharist, Baptisms, Funerals, and Morning Prayer, as well as Seasonal Selections for Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter. Also featured is the beautiful Magnificat by Anne Ward - not a setting of the biblical text, but a reflection on the events of Mary's life.

Designed to use a wide range of instruments, making it adaptable to whatever resources you have at hand. Small ensembles and cathedral choirs alike will enjoy singing these pieces.

The latest release from the Group is a musical re-telling of the life and ministry of Christ, from the Incarnationto the exhortation "Go out to the whole world, proclaim the Good News." With songs for use in liturgies throughout the year, Praise Be to Christ reflects the group's continuing committment to writing accissible melodies and adaptable pieces for communities with varying needs and resources. Expressing a striking variety of styles, the 16 titles include ritual music, Gospel acclamations, responsorial psalm settings, strophic hymns, an ostinato refrain recalling the Taize chants, a chant in an African style and a moving piece for Good Friday.
Produced by Andrew Wright, the recording features an enthusiastic performance by a choir of young singers from Cambridge.
